STUNNED former AFC Totton loanee Baily Cargill has spoken of his joy after earning a first call-up to the England under-20s squad.

The 19-year-old AFC Bournemouth centre-back been named in the Aidy Boothroyd’s squad to face Canada and Portugal during the international break.

The Canada game is of particular note Cherries fans as it takes place at Dean Court on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Cargill, who won Totton’s supporters’ player-of-the-year award just two seasons ago, told Cherries’ official website: “It’s a massive moment for me and my family and everyone that has helped me to get where I am today.

“What an honour it is to be called up for England - I just can’t believe it.

“We trained as normal and the gaffer came over. I thought he was going to give me some positive criticism and then he told me I had been called up.

“I think I deserve it because I have worked hard and now I just can’t wait.

“I could get to play at Dean Court in an England shirt which would be even better but just to be recognised and involved is amazing.

“This just proves that if you work hard, you get your reward. This is going to make me work even harder, because I want more.”

In addition to the Canada fixture, England under-20s face Portugal in Coimbra on Monday, November 17.

Cargill has yet to make a Championship appearance for Cherries but has starred in the run to the League Cup quarter-finals.

Cherries have only conceded one goal in the six hours that Cargill has featured in the competition this season.
