Nathaniel Clyne will again have to try and force his way past former Saints teammate Calum Chambers if he is to win his first England cap.

Clyne and Saints keeper Fraser Forster have been included in Roy Hodgson’s squad for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia a week tomorrow and the friendly against Scotland on Tuesday, November 18.

Clyne will be hoping to make his international debut, having been overlooked in the last set of England fixtures with Chambers, who left St Mary’s for Arsenal for £16m in the summer, preferred.

Clyne and Forster are just two of a number of call-ups already received by Saints.

“We are proud to have a lot of international football players because that means a lot to the club,” said Saints boss Ronald Koeman.

“Of course it’s a tough week for them but they learn a lot about international football and I am very proud of the players.

“Last time we had 17 calls for our players and that is fantastic and means a lot and a lot of experience they will get in two weeks.

“Always you expect the players back in a good physical shape but that’s not up to me, we have to hope about that.”

There has been talk that Forster, right, could soon challenge Joe Hart for the England number one jersey and Koeman added: “I don’t know because that’s not my question.

“If Fraser is keeping his level, is not receiving a lot of goals maybe then he makes that decision more difficult for the national coach.”

Once again there will be plenty of Saints stars in action for their countries.

Toby Alderweireld is in the Belgium squad for a friendly against Iceland before they host Wales in a Euro 2016 qualifier.

Maya Yoshida will be in Japan for back-to-back Kirin Challenge Cup matches against Honduras and Australia, while Steven Davis and Florin Gardos could come head-to-head as Romania welcome Northern Ireland for a Euro 2016 qualifying game.

Dusan Tadic will be back in action for Serbia for the first time since their game against Albania was abandoned due to a drone flying overhead and the melee that followed. Serbia host Denmark before a trip to Greece.

Sadio Mane will be hoping to seal qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal as they play their final two group games.

They head into this set of fixtures in second place in their group and face a vital first match with Egypt, who sit just a point behind them, before rounding off with a trip to Botswana. The top two sides from each group qualify automatically with the best third place team also getting through.

Emmanuel Mayuka is also in the Zambia squad for African Cup of Nations games against Mozambique and Cape Verde. Zambia are second in their group, ahead of the final two fixtures.

Morgan Schneiderlin is in the France squad for friendlies against Albania and Sweden.

After winning the recent four nation tournament, Harrison Reed and Matt Targett are in the England under-20 squad for a game against Canada in Bournemouth and another fixture against Portugal, while Josh Sims is in the England under-18 squad for two games in Poland.
