Saints are still waiting to discover the extent of the injury suffered by Sadio Mane.

The flying winger picked up the problem when scoring for the third Premier League game in a row as Saints defeated Arsenal 2-0 at St Mary’s.

It comes at a tricky time with Mane due to head off to play for Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations after Sunday’s sold out FA Cup third round tie against Ipswich.

All plans are currently on hold however while the extent of the damage is properly assessed.

“We don’t have any news about Sadio Mane because we have to wait about the news,” reported Ronald Koeman, who may well have to speak to Senegal boss Alain Giresse to negotiate over Mane’s release, or lack of, for the upcoming tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

“We took a scan and this afternoon we will know what happened exactly and then we talk about his situation.”

When asked whether the problem is likely to delay Mane’s departure Koeman added: “Maybe. First we have to wait about the result of the scan and then we can say something more about that.”

Saints have no fresh injury worries ahead of the game against Ipswich, who are second in the Championship, and Koeman admitted he is unlikely to make many changes to the side that defeated Arsenal with Morgan Schneiderlin set to return to the squad after suspension.

“First of all the most important is always speak to the players and wait until tomorrow’s session about the freshness of the players,” he said.

“You know me already a little bit and I don’t change the team a lot because I don’t believe in the rotation of the team.

“We keep going and maybe one or two players we change but not much more.”
