The organisers of the new-look New Forest Marathon are looking for a headline sponsor for the event’s September relaunch.

It is 16 months since the last event, as it was cancelled last year for financial reasons.

But sports development specialists Andy Daish and Chris Farr are relaunching it on Sunday, September 13. The New Forest Marathon has always taken place in and around New Milton but a new route will soon be revealed. There will also be a half-marathon and 10k and 5k races.

Andy Daish and Chris Farr, from Ora Events, have taken the project on as a commercial venture, while retaining its charitable ethos.

“We want to make the New Forest Marathon bigger and better than ever but to do that costs money so we’re looking for a sponsor,” said Andy. “Having grown up in the Forest we know how special it is and are making sure it’s going to be a memorable experience, a fun day for the whole family.

“It wasn’t sustainable in its previous format. It raised £1.25m for charities over 31 years and we want to add to that with money raised going towards the New Forest Marathon Community Fund, which charities will be able to apply to for grants.

“We’re grateful for the help of the race organiser of the original event and other committee members and have already had significant interest on social media, with enquiries from all over the country and from as far as New Zealand.

“The course can’t be revealed yet but it’s going to be in a different location and will be stunning with spectacular views and four different routes catering for everyone.

“The marathon will be half on-road and half off-road and we’re hoping for to 10,000 runners on the day.”
