Moroccan international Hassan Kachloul, who played for Saints between 1998 and 2001, is 42 today.

A tricky wide player, he feared his football career could be scuppered when, as a dual national, he was called up by the French Army prior to joining FC Metz in 1996.

He embarked on a bizarre scheme to persaude medical staff that he was mad, and after refusing food and drink persuaded a psycharitrist to write him off.

After buying out his Metz contract, he negotiated his own transfer to Saints, where he made 96 appearances and scored 15 times, including two in the very last game at The Dell against Arsenal.

Opting to let his contract run down, he joined Aston Villa, but struggled for a regular place and went to Livingston in Scotland before retiring in late 2005. He now works as a property developer.
