Frustrated Saints boss Ronald Koeman insists his Saints side must to rediscover their attacking “quality” if they are to get back to winning ways at St Mary’s.

Saints were held to a goalless draw against West Ham last night, the fourth league and cup game in a row they have failed to win at home.

While they have been on sensational form away from home, it has been much tougher at St Mary’s with chances few and far between.

Koeman is adamant his team don’t have a problem at home, but admits they are struggling in the final third.

He said: “I don’t think so (suffering a problem at home).

“The press is making a little bit that kind of story but it’s now the third in a row that we don’t win. I think you have to analyse why we don’t win.

“Against Swansea I think we create enough to score in the first 45 minutes the goal but maybe it’s a little bit more difficult because maybe in away games we get a little bit more space than we have at home.

“Ok, then you need really that quality to force the goal or to create something else. That’s not like before.”

He added: “For sure if you are the better team, more ball possession, more chances and you play 25 minutes 11 against ten then you expect to score at least one time and we didn’t.

“It showed a little bit our performance in the last few games in creating chances and scoring goals is a little bit more struggling than in the first part of the season.

“Ok, that’s disappointing.

“I think we didn’t make the pitch really very wide.

“Always if you play against ten players you need to play out of good positions on the pitch and I think it was in my opinion not clever enough how we played against ten players.

“Too much players in the centre of pitch, too less players to make it wide to create the space, sharpness in the box.

“Ok, that in my opinion is the reason we didn’t win the game.”

Saints now have a week and a half before their next game, also at St Mary’s, against Liverpool.

It is shaping up to be a massive match in the context of their season.

Koeman’s message to his players in the meantime is clear.

“Keep working, keep training, keep good organisation in the team and that was ok another clean sheet,” he said.

“If you play a game like tonight and you play a long time 11 against ten in my opinion you have to score, you have to create more opportunities than what we did.”
