Saints new boy Filip Djuricic believes the club’s style of play is made for him, as he looks forward to a “special” game against Liverpool tomorrow.

The showdown with the Reds could see the 23-year-old midfielder make his first start for Ronald Koeman’s team, following his loan move from Benfica.

Serbia international Djuricic, who is initially with Saints until the end of the season, came on as a late sub in last week’s goalless draw with West Ham, before then featuring in an under-21 match.

Tomorrow could provide supporters with the first good look at him, though, and it is a game that Djuricic is excited about being a part of.

“I like to play games under the pressure, where it’s a full stadium,” he said.

“Until now, I play a lot of games especially for the national team, against Croatia, Albania – that’s the games that are special for us, as players.

“Playing against Liverpool is one of those games.”

Djuricic’s preferred role is as a central attacking midfielder, but he also says he is comfortable playing a wider role – either on the left or right.

With that in mind, he thinks he will fit well into Koeman’s side.

“Before I choose to come here, I watched some games of Southampton,” he said.

“The style they are playing and also the formation – 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3, however you want to say – it’s a match made for me and I like when the team’s playing short passes in between the lines.

“That’s the case in Southampton.”

Even before his arrival, Djuricic was well known to a number of Saints players.

He is great friends with fellow Serbian Dusan Tadic, while he played against Graziano Pelle, Toby Alderweireld, Eljero Elia and Maya Yoshida during his time in Holland, with Heerenveen.

All that has helped him settle in quickly at the club, and Djuricic explained he is also enjoying life in the city.

“I like it here,” he said. “I was on the field with the guys. I came and played immediately the game, you know, and for me it was really nice.

“I went to the city. For me it’s really nice and I hope I will settle in a couple of days in some house or apartment, because I am still in hotel.

“But for now everything is fine – the training facilities, the guys, the team, the coach, everything, it is on the level that I expect.”
