GRAZIANO Pelle won’t be the only striker desperate to end a goal drought at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

The Saints forward has not scored in the Premier League for over 900 minutes.

The Italian has gone 11 top flight games since his eighth and last league goal of the 2014/15 season against Everton at St Mary’s five days before Christmas.

Chelsea’s top scorer Diego Costa will no doubt sympathise.

The Spanish international is also experiencing his longest goal drought of his debut season in the Premier League.

He has failed to score in his last seven league and cup outings, the latest being Wednesday’s Champions League elimination by Paris St Germain.

He thought he had netted in Chelsea’s 2-0 League Cup final win against Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham at Wembley, but that went down as a Kyle Walker own goal.

Costa’s last goals, therefore, were a brace in a 5-0 win at Swansea on January 17.

Like Pelle, he began the season in fine form.

While the £8m Saints signing was hitting six goals in his first eight league games, the £32m Costa was netting seven goals in his opening five Premier League matches.

He netted on his debut at Burnley, again on his home debut against Leicester, struck twice in a 6-3 win at Goodison Park before hitting a 22-minute hat-trick against Swansea at Stamford Bridge.

After racing to 11 goals in his first 13 league and cup games for the Blues, he has since managed just six more strikes in 19 appearances.

Both Pelle and Costa arrived in English football last summer after prolific seasons in Europe.

Costa fired 35 goals in 46 La Liga and Champions League games for Atletico Madrid.

He was the most high profile performer as Atletico stunned both cross-city rivals Real and Barcelona to land the Spanish League title.

They were also agonisingly close to beating Real in the Champions League final, before losing 4-1 in extra time.

Costa struck eight goals in nine Champions League games last term, but failed to find the net in seven attempts in the competition for Chelsea.

Though Costa’s goals have somewhat dried up in recent months, there are only four players who have scored more league goals than him across Europe’s top five leagues in England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France.

Pelle belted 23 Dutch League goals in 28 games for Feyenoord before being signed by his former boss Ronald Koeman.
