SAINTS’ participation in next season’s Europa League could provide a healthy financial windfall if they enjoy a long run in the tournament.
The winners of the competition bank around £7m in total prize money, with five million Euros (around £3.6m) on offer to the winning finalists.
The runners-up receive 1.5m Euros – around £1.8m.
Those figures are obviously dwarfed by the riches on offer in the UEFA Champions League, with this season’s winners receiving 15 million Euros and the runners-up 10.5m Euros.
Just reaching the Champions League group stage is worth around £6.3m, and winning the Champions League is worth at least £37m.
If Saints can win through two rounds to reach the Europa League group stages, they will receive around £930,000.
For every group stage win they get, they will receive a further £144,000. And for every draw they will get £72,000.
Again, those figures appear miniscule compared to the Champions League, where every group win carries a £737,000 cheque and every draw is worth £369,000.
Winning their Europa League group would be worth around £290,000.
If Saints reach the last 16, that brings with it a cheque for £252,000.
The prize for reaching the last 16 of the Champions League is £2.6m.
