Sholing captain Byron Mason has dismissed speculation surrounding his future at the Silverlake Arena by announcing "I'm going nowhere" and duly signing forms with the Sydenhams Premier Division returnees.

Despite being demoted back to the Wessex after a season in the Southern League South & West because of ground grading problems, the Boatmen have been able to secure the services of Mason and supporters' player-of-the-season, Alex Sawyer.

"I'm going nowhere," stated Mason. "I have a new baby on the way so this is ideal for me and the family."

The powerhouse midfielder briefly left Portsmouth Road last season when he signed for Gosport Borough in the Conference South (now the National League South).

But he returned in early December after finding chances limited, linking back up with the Boatmen, with whom he won the FA Vase in 2013/14 and where his brothers Dan and Barry also ply their trade.

There was alleged interest for the skipper as the Boatmen prepare for life in the Wessex, but Mason, who is closing in on 400 appearances for the club, has pledged his allegiance to Dave Diaper's outfit for next term.

Sawyer, who was also in high demand, was one of the shining lights during a transitional campaign for the Boatmen.

However, the academy graduate has signed on, with the club hoping to secure the services of more players in the coming weeks.
