WINCHESTER City limbered up for their Southern League return with a 2-0 home victory over Blackfield & Langley tonight.
After a goalless first half, top gun Warren Bentley opened the scoring before Dan Cann – a summer signing from Blackfield – punished his old club from close range.
Paul Masters’s men kick off their Division One South & West campaign at home to Bridgwater Town on Saturday.
Sholing also ended their pre-season preparations on a winning note, beating newly-promoted Sydenhams Wessex champions Petersfield Town 2-1 at the Silverlake Arena.
Petersfield seized the lead against the run of play courtesy of a Michael Dixon thunderbolt on 38 minutes.
Sholing hit back either side of half-time with headers from Pete Castle and Dean Faithfull.
The Boatmen, now back in the Wessex Premier ranks, travel to Graham Rix’s AFC Portchester on Saturday. Their first home game is next Wednesday (August 12) against Moneyfields.
