THE Peter Symonds College sailing team continues to grow with 29 students signed up for the activity, which is offering dinghy training at Weston Sailing Club in Southampton and yacht racing training on the Hamble River as well as competitive events.
The first of these was at the RYA Eric Twiname Youth Regatta at Oxford SC.
The three crews — Jake Farren-Price and Niamh Gannon, Lewis Brown and Dan Atherton, Alistair Lawrence and Nick Robins, supported by reserve Daniel May — were sailing Firefly dinghies and finished fifth out of 27.
“The Symonds sailors did well and were well placed in their first youth team event,” said Mike Stanbridge, activity leader. “The team put in tremendous efforts in not the warmest of weathers. Their team captain, Jake Farren-Price, deserves special praise for not only identifying this RYA event but also initiating and progressing the entry through the College’s Sports Maker, Kitty Yarwood.”
Squad (former school in brackets): Jake Farren-Price (ex Westgate), Niamh Gannon (St Bartholomews School), Lewis Brown (Noadswood), Dan Atherton (Ryde), Alistair Lawrence (Cams Hill), Nicholas Robins (Canford), Daniel May (Churchers).
