SAINTS have recalled young striker Sam Gallagher back from his goalless loan spell at Champioship side MK Dons.

Gallagher moved to Stadium MK in the summer with a view to spending the whole season with Karl Robinson's side.

However, his stay has been cut short having found opportunities limited.

On top of that, with Jay Rodriguez and Graziano Pelle out injured, Saints have few options available to them in the striking department.

The 20-year-old returns to St Mary's tomorrow (Thursday) having failed to find the net in the 15 games he played for his temporary charges. He made six starts.

He most recently featured from the bench in a 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City on December 28.

“Sam’s attitude has been spot on and he’s always given everything - it’s unfortunate that things haven’t worked out," Dons manager Robinson said.

“He’s found opportunities limited and it’s vital, at his age, that he is playing games on a regular basis and we never want to stand in the way of a young player doing that.”

Robinson added: “We are thankful to Southampton for their help and co-operation. I have no doubts that Sam will be a top, top player in the future and we wish him all the best.”
