CHARLIE Austin insists that he has not got an England call-up on his mind despite his sensational scoring form for Saints.

Top scorer Austin has been unstoppable this term, netting seven goals in as many games in all competitions.

The 27-year-old added two more to his tally against his former club Burnley on Sunday, thrusting him further into Gareth Southgate’s gaze.

If Austin’s form continues it would be almost impossible for the Three Lions boss to overlook the striker for a call up for the World Cup qualifier against Scotland and a friendly versus Spain next month.

But the former QPR man, who has been called up for England once before but didn’t play in May 2015 for two Euro 2016 qualifiers, would rather just concentrate on continuing his hot form for Saints.

“No, I’m just here to put in performances,” he said when asked about getting the call from Southgate. “If it happens, great, if not I’ll be here just working hard trying to score as many goals for Southampton as possible.

“I’ve got a job to do here at Southampton.”

“We need to push on now,” he continued. “We’ve got a big game on Thursday against Inter Milan and we’ve got an even bigger one in the league against Man City.”

Austin has got his sights set on more goals during Saints’ rammed fixture list, which includes six games between now and the next international break in three weeks time.

The former Poole Town man is hoping to be involved for Saints in their huge trip to Inter Milan in the Europa League on Thursday.

Although, with Claude Puel constantly rotating his team, there are no guarantees that he’ll be used at the San Siro with a trip to Manchester City in the Premier League just three days later.

Austin was rested alongside Jose Fonte, Steven Davis and Bertrand for the Hapoel Be’er Sheva game in Israel last time out in Europe and Puel has already stated that he will continue to tinker with his side.

“Whatever the gaffer wants,” said Austin. “He rotates it and that’s the way it is. Hopefully I am [involved] but I just want to stay fit, keep scoring goals and helping the team put in performances like that today.”

Austin made it four goals in as many games against his former employer  Burnley on Sunday.

Both of his goals at St Mary’s he celebrated fervently and insists he’d do that against any of his old clubs. “People ask me: ‘against old clubs, do you celebrate?’” he said. “Yes I celebrate every goal I score.

“I don’t play for Burnley anymore. I have great respect for them, but I score goals and play for Southampton. I enjoy every moment. That’s my job to put the ball in the net.”

He added: “To be honest, some people do it out of respect. I have respect for them. I scored 45 goals in 90 games for them.

“I’m here to score goals and it was the same for QPR I’d celebrate against Burnley. I scored against them today and I celebrate. I play for this club now, not Burnley.”
