TEAM Solent are up to third in Sydenhams Premier Division after last night's 3-1 home win over Amesbury Town.

Manager James Taylor was honest enough to admit that the Southampton Solent University side were ill-deserving of their 1-0 half-time lead courtesy of a breakaway Jesse Waller-Lassen goal.

They were better value in the second half as sub Jim Orvis made it 2-0 on 84 minutes and, although Josh Stockwell quickly pulled one back for Amesbury, there was still time for Waller-Lassen to bag a second.

“We didn’t play well, particularly first half. Amesbury are quite a good side and they had a couple of good opportunities to score before us," said Taylor.

"Jesse broke and slotted one in, but we didn't deserve to go in 1-0 up.

"We did enough in the second half without being particularly great. Jim Orvis came on and got the second and Jesse scored again at the end."

Form side Solent are nine points behind league leaders Moneyfields with two games in hand, but Taylor says winning the title would be a "big ask."

"There are some big teams in this league paying lots of money so I wouldn't have thought we could, but it's been a good six weeks, that’s for sure,” he smiled.

"That’s 15 wins and a draw from 16 (league and cup) games and you can’t do much better than that!

"There's a long, long way to go yet."
