GEORGE BURLEY will consider moving for another midfielder after seeing Danny Guthrie opt for a switch to the Premiership.
The Saints boss declared himself "disappointed" after the 20-year-old midfielder, who spent the last few months of the season on-loan at Saints, decided on a year-long loan deal at Bolton.
Saints had hoped to land him on a similar basis from Liverpool but the lure of the Premiership proved too much for Guthrie.
Burley said: "I'm disappointed. We spoke to his agent and he said there was interest from a Premiership club and I presume Danny wanted to go to the Premiership.
"I'm pleased we've progressed the boy's career though naturally we would have liked him to be in Southampton next season.
"The boy did very well for us and, whilst disappointed he's not here, I'm pleased he's progressed to the Premiership."
In terms of replacing Guthrie in the squad Burley added: "We'll be looking at it.
"There is somebody taken out of the squad from the end of last season so it's something we'll look at."
