A miserable afternoon for Saints ended in defeat against a struggling Crystal Palace side.
It all fell apart during a two minute spell in the first-half.
Fraser Forster made a colossal error for the opener as he missed Jose Fonte’s back-pass to allow Christian Benteke to rob in and hit home for 1-0 on 33 minutes.
On 35 minutes, Saints were undone by a Joe Ledley flick on from a corner. It deflected off James Ward-Prowse to James Tomkins to hit home to make it 2-0.
There were glum faces at that point, but it got even worse.
Saints lacked imagination and a cutting edge and, in a pretty dull second-half, failed to find a breakthrough.
Palace made it 3-0 late on as some statuesque defending left ex-Saint Jason Puncheon with the simple task of squaring to unmarked Benteke to hit home.
