LEICESTER City have joined the chase to sign Marek Saganowski, whose goals almost propelled Saints into the Premiership last season.
Foxes chairman Milan Mandaric has revealed he would like to sign the highly-rated Polish striker, 28, who was on loan at St Mary's for the second half of last season, scoring ten goals in 13 games as Saints reached the play-offs.
Saganowski has two years left on his deal with French club Troyes but they would consider selling him for a fee of around £700,000.
Ex-Pompey chairman Mandaric said: "There are a number of clubs interested; I'm lying in wait. Marek is a player I like."
Earlier this month the French club's website stated that Saints had exercised an option to buy Saganowski from Troyes for £680,000.
Burnley were among several clubs have expressed interest in Saganowski, who previously said he was keen to sign for Southampton.
Burnley boss Steve Cotterill admitted: "There has been contact, but Southampton have first option to buy him."
