SOUTHAMPTON AC’s Sean Adams struck senior men’s 400 metres gold at the South of England Senior/Under-20 Indoor Championships.

The five-man final was dominated by the red and white stripes with three Southampton athletes making it through.

Tyson Oladokun fought his way to fifth place after setting an indoor personal best in his semi-final, Harry Fisher made a heartening return after successive seasons of injury to win bronze in 50.42 seconds and pride of place went to Adams who was crowned champion in 50.16.

Matthew Hewitt set a season’s best 8.33 seconds on his way to the senior 60m hurdles final, where he placed fifth, and there was another season’s best for Luke Yaxley in his 60m flat heat.

Southampton’s ever-consistent pole vaulter Sam Bass-Cooper placed fifth, while veteran Graham Lay stepped down an age-group to collect bronze in the senior men’s shot put with 12.26 metres.

Mandy Gault, a member of Southampton’s promotion-winning UK Women's League team, placed fifth in the senior women's 400m final with 55.74.

Georgina Russell was fifth in her 800m heat in 2.27.74 and Laura Edwards took seventh spot in the senior women’s pole vault, clearing 3.30.

In the under-20 men's age-group, Sam Jones narrowly missed out on the 60m semi-finals despite recording a huge personal best (pb) of 7.31 seconds. James Jackson qualified third fastest for the 400m final where he clocked a lifetime best of 50.70 for fourth.

Elsewhere in the country, Jack Major, competing in the Northern Championships, achieved a 60m hurdles pb of 8.27.

*Southampton AC's under-15 and under-17 athletes bagged an impressive seven medals at the South of England Indoor Championships.

Jack McDonald broke the under-15 boys' club indoor record with 39.81 seconds on his way to 300m bronze.

Oliver Thatcham was fourth in the same race with a personal best 42.21 and went on to claim shot put bronze with another pb of 10.18 metres.

Maisie Jeger was a silver medallist in the under-15 girls' 300m, posting 44.93.

Amaya Scott won under-17 women's shot put bronze (12.69) while her younger sister Lara was fourth in the under-15 girls' high jump, missing out on bronze on countback with a 1.50m pb.

Callum Gregson accounted for two of Southampton's medal haul, following bronze in the under-15 boys' 60m hurdles (9.21 pb) with silver in the high jump with a sparkling 1.70pb.

In the girls' sprint hurdles final, Lucy-Jane Matthews put to injury-ravaged seasons behind her to take silver in 9.23.
