ANDOVER Town boss Glenn Burnett is enjoying the view from the Sydenhams Premier Division summit after Tuesday’s 6-1 win over Hamble Club.

But when it comes to talking titles, the former Romsey Town and Blackfield & Langley manager has his feet planted firmly on the ground.

"The way I see it is we’re three points ahead of Blackfield with 87 points to play for,” he said.

“Having won the league with Blackfield and gained promotion with Winchester City, I know how things can change. It's a long season.”

While Town have scarcely put a foot wrong in the league, reeling off 12 wins and a draw ahead of Saturday's home game against Bournemouth Poppies, their cup form tells a different story.

“We’re out of the FA Cup, FA Vase, League Cup and Hampshire Senior Cup, so we've had spells when we've not been so good but they don’t show in the league table,” said Burnett.

“I’ve said all along there will be seven or eight teams up there challenging right to the end and I stand by that.

“Blackfield have got an excellent squad who won’t lose many games of football.

“We went to Horndean in the Vase and they’re another excellent side.

“And when we beat Sholing, the first thing I said was they’d be more dangerous than ever now and more than capable of putting together ten wins in a row.

“With 87 points to play for, I’m certainly not going to talk about winning the title now. It's been a promising start, but the tough part of the season is coming now.

“We finished 13th last season and our target was to improve. If we can do that, it’s all good.”

Even Burnett conceded that Hamble Club were the better side in the first half on Tuesday and, at 2-1 with half-an-hour to go, the game could have swung either way.

The difference, according Hamble boss Ben Kneller, was Town's awesome finishing, spearheaded by Zach Glasspool and George Hallahan who each scored two.

"They’re one of the most clinical sides I’ve seen in the Wessex League – not just this year, but any season,” he said.

“They go forward with pace and power and have masses of quality in the final third.

“They'll concede goals, but I'd expect them to outscore most teams."
