Burley hits out at Pompey

George Burley has hit out at Pompey for making public their admiration for Nathan Dyer.

Pompey assistant manager Tony Adams has admitted that Saints' south coast rivals have been monitoring the teenage academy product "for a while".

Dyer is out of contract at the end of the season but showed the speculation has not affected him with another impressive display at Burnley, the club where he spent three months on loan two years ago, on Saturday.

But Adams's admission did not please Burley.

The Saints manager said: "I don't think other people should be talking about players from other clubs like that.

"Speculation is part of being a footballer when you're doing well, as Nathan is doing, but unfortunately that's the way some people do it these days."

I don't think managers should hit out at other managers like this, it's demeaning and undignified.

Managers face a difficult enough time without having to deal with out-of-control tirades such as this.

Burley is under great pressure, we all know that, but it's important he looks to cut out the embarassing outbursts that have dogged his career.

Yes you maybe in the premiership at the moment but we are still the better club, just look at your stadium it a s..t hole and your city isnt much better. You are even thinking of building your new stadium on a rubbish dump, but to be honest that could be anywhere in portsmouth..

I cant see why he would want to go there and play for Redcrap,or even sit on the bench with craine..

what people seem to have missed is that "he is out of contract at the season".........so get him signed up or else we risk losing him for nothing if he does get swayed. Personally i think he owes Burley/saints a debt for being patient with him and developing him correctly, I am sure he appreciates that.

Just about every young player that has come through our youth system in the last 5 years owes the club some debt of gratitude.Walcott & Bale appart due to transfer fee's,how many other's have been lured away with the promise of greater thing's?. Mills...Cranie...Bai

I think most Saints fans myself included have no respect for Redknapp , nothing he does or says should surprise any of us .Stirring is his ploy and we should not rise to it .I always maintain there is no loyalty in our game anymore and i would never want to watch someone in our colours play for us when they have no heart for us the fans or our club , lets just hope that he keeps faith with us for a bit longer .All i know is that we have a bickering board and shareholders that do not have money to invest .I do not know the logistics of the proposed investment but we certainly need an injection of cash .I have to be careful of what i say now but i did read the article in Sundays Mail which i will not repeat true or false ,and if there are proceedures to sue by any one ? lets make it clear that the club we support wont be paying for it

Saints could drop to the Conference and they would still be a bigger club that P**tsmouth. I think any free thinking neautral would agree with that. So if Dyer wanted to go down the road and pick up a few quid from the Russian/Jewish gun runners good luck to him.

Lin, Wellow, is absolutely right. I care only about Southampton and the Saints. I really do not give a toss about Portsmouth Football Club, or anything to do with them or their town. They are as remote to me as Accrington Stanley or Inverness.

We have to accept that, as a Championship side, we will produce talented players who will desire to move on to greater things - a fact of life. What SFC has to do is capitalise to the maximum on the return that we get for these players. That's the nature of any business.

I know that we shouldn't rise to the bait, but two points.
1) it really does get to me why these retards feel they have to post on a site when the topic is Saints, don't they have their own boards, or haven't they got computers yet.(stolen ones don't count)
2) you have to admit it is pretty amazing that there are skates out there that can string sentences together and some almost touch upon humour. And the fact that they can type, what with the SIX FINGERS and inbred webbing between the the fingers.
So all you SKATES, carry on going on about how wonderful you are, and how well you are doing !!! Even though you will never match the reds,or our record in the top flight. In another 24 years maybe, just maybe you'll have a point.

Dyer to Pompey,do me a favour.
If he going to go antwhere he will go to a club who can further his career.
Fact is Pompey may have the money (at the moment)which is the only reason they are where they are now.
The reality is that in over twenty years they have only produced one decent player, and he was from Southampton.
Pompey is the last place any youngster should go to.
They cannot produce players.
Its satisfying when you consider Saints stayed in top flight football for all those years having to produce players.
The fact is that despite all their money, nobody wants to sign for them,l wonder why.
They became that desperate they had to sign a player from Saints who could not get into a championship side.
Giving most of their team are nearing their pension, giving that no-one wants to sign for them and giving the fact that they cannot produce a player,it wont be long before normal service is resumed.
Stop pretending your a big club Pompey.
If Dyer goes he will go to a big club,so stop being so dumb and DELUDED because it will never happen,FACT.

Still i bet Harry is still a favourite with the bookies as there was enough dodgy money put on him leaving SFC and going back to Fratton , he got away with that one ! Pompey fans hated him at the time , he is only there like most managers until a better deal comes along , probably Russian money .We are a great family club , can take the kids .The last time we played them at home i remember a young lad walking along Albert rd in his Pompey Shirt and that is how football should be , he was supporting the team he loved , my Son was not so lucky when he visited me when i was an inpatient in St Mary's in 2000 , he wore his Saints top and was ABUSED INSIDE THE GROUNDS , TROUBLE IS HE DID NOT UNDERSTAND , IF I HAD DRESSED HIM I WOULD HAVE ADVISED HIM NOT TO WEAR IT , BUT SHAME ON THE ADULTS THAT THOUGHT HE WAS FAIR GAME

You might be right in respect of honours, however Pompey have not spent more time in the top flight thant Saints. In fact if you go through and look at both clubs since they were founded Southampton have finished higher than Pompey more times.

BUT the Saints don't need to spend lots of money, just get the house in order, spend what they have or might get wisely. A sound reliable setup (Squad and directors) is what is needed more than anything else at the moment.

They proved they can play as well as anyone in the this division just looking at the games against WBA, Burnley and Bristol City(2nd Half ,which I was at)for starters.

Use Bristol City as an example, They haven't spent lots of money, in fact a couple of seasons ago they sold there Star player (striker) to Reading for the money.
The one thing they do have though is a contented squad and good working relationship with a trustworthy board. (Yes I am a Bristol City supporter) but I do also follow the Saints as well.

Saints do need to get Nathan Dyer to sign a contract though, but would you want stay with a setup like it is at the moment, I wouldn't if someone was going to give me greater earning potential (It's called life).
It can also work in Nathan's favour to sign, then let the Saint's sell him on as they no doubt will, going on their past record.

Last week old twitcy face said that there weren't any decent young British players coming through so it seems rather hypocritical to then consider buying Dyer if a 'ready made' player from an African country offers better value. I'm sure Martin Cranie is loving it at QPR, bottom of the league and just appointed a new foreign manager who will no doubt bring in loads of mediocre Italians to swell the ranks.

Looking at the recent sales only Walcott is really excellingm, which is no surprise as he's the best player we've produced since Matt Le Tissier.

I said before, when the likes of Crainie and Best wanted to go, that we should have offered them a new contract with a get out clause allowing them to move if we missed out on promotion and if we were offered a mutually agreed fee. The same type of offer should be made to Dyer. Three year contract with a get out clause if we don't go up and get an offer in excess of 2.5 million. Still not a big sum if he carries on improving, but a darn sight more than we would get if (when?) it goes to arbitration. This shows respect and loyalty from both sides and enables both to win, instead of the Saints losing yet again. And to echo other writers, does he really want to give up first team football at St Mary's to sit on the Pompey bench or even turn out for QPR or worse, like Crainie.

This Section of the website is called SAINTS NEWS think that says it all.

They probably want Dyer for their Academy side, which has already lost 2-0 to Saints this season and are below us in the league, the FA Premier Academy League (A). Arsenal are top, Fulham 2nd (who we recently beat away) and Saints are 3rd, a point behind. Above West Ham, The Skates, Chelsea etc.
If Paul Allen has any vision or decent advice, the sooner he steps in the safer our youth set up, the stronger the future, the better ROI he will get for his risk. The current board are **** away the future.
Sadly the saintsfc website is 4 matches out of date with the Academy league table for which you need to go to West Ham, Fulham, Arsenal website to see. Not on the Skates site, presumably because they are below us.

Thats right, one thing you can't escape is that you are a small part of the abbreviated Southamptonshire!!! You couldn't make it up, and I haven't. Pompey - Premiership
and Southampton - Championship
Enjoy good football played by both teams !

A few Sants fans on this forum have mentioned how good their stadium is compared to pompeys.I tell you what, its a good job Saints have a big capacity stadium, they will definitely need it when big name teams such as blackpool, colchester and stoke visit them!!! ITS GREAT TO SEE SAINTS ROTTING IN

Why oh why oh why do so many P*mpey fans have so little to do with their lives that all they want to do is read the Saints pages?

I can't think of one occasion when it even crossed my mind to log onto their local newspaper and read because i just don't care!!

Maybe they're all closet Saints fans? If not then, although we're really flattered you take so much interest in our club, get a life!!!

Lets just put the success of the both clubs to rest, here's the facts:
Portsmouth have won in all the existance the below:
6 Leagues 2 runner up's
1 shared charity shield (sharing doesn't really count)
1 FA Cup 2 runner up
1 Asian Cup - not a profesionally recognised cup(it was a freindly cup don't count)
SOUTHAMPTON have won below:
8 Leagues 3 runner ups
1 FA Cup 3 runner ups
- oh and runner up in league cup 1 time

so here's the count Saints 9 profesionally recognised honours conpaired to Pompey's 7.5 Asia Cup Just don't Count and the only reason you got a share of the charity shield is because they didn't have the balls to do penalty shoot-outs in those days.

Also Add 27 years of top flight football oh and the fact that POMPEY havn't beaten us more than 5 times in the last 30 YEARS!!!!!!

SAINTS HAVE BEEN MORE SUCCESSFUL SINCE THEY STARTED, THEY ARE MORE CONSISTENT, THAY HAVE A BETTER STADIUM,OH AND A BETTER ACCADEMY!!!

You POMPEY Scates just want your club to be like ours, we survived all those years on a shoe string budget, we may be in a bit of a pickle now but the money invested in the past on the accademy is now paying off and generating the big money to keep us afloat and pushing for promotion, Football's a business not a hobby anymore you cant just chuck money at it like your chairman is, Chelsea have other incomes put inplace to componsate if Abramovic leaves POMPEY DON'T!!!! When he gets bord or runs out of DADDY'S Money Who's gonna pay the high wages etc.....??? When this happens We the SAINTS WILL STILL BE MARCHING ON!!! In the premiership KICKING SKATE ****!!!

Adrian - two important points concerning your post

1. - Out of the 6 leagues Pompey have won, two were in the top flight Out of the 8 Saints have won, none were

2. - Out of the 6 leagues Pompey have won, two were in the top flight Out of the 8 Saints have won, none were.

I know that technically the second point is the same as the first but its so important I thought it worth mentioning twice

If Saints fans couldn't give a monkeys about Pompey how come whenever I see them on TV within a couple of minutes we get the first rendition of "when I was just a boy......" etc. sung so cheerfully followed by "we hate Pompey". Was true even in the dark days when we languished in a lower division.
Also, if you look back through the history books I think you'll find Pompey have a higher average league finish than Saints. Our fan base is lauded throughout football and away support legendry. Ask a neutral who they think is the bigger club.....if you dare.

It was my first cyber f/v memory was only a youngster, think my post count was 200-300. The row we had with Portsmouth's 6.57 GigaByte Crew. Very naughty, all the right faces were logged in. Sort of posters you knew you could post side by side with until the server crashed. Could have been a lot worse for the 6.57gb boys that evening but a few very game posters got turned away because of 3 year IP bans.

Anyway we plotted up on the Independent supporters association website, Pompey were no where to be seen, we had the free roam of the forum. We sent a couple of spotters into the away section but it was an Admin overkill, they had it well under control.

Later on in the afternoon a large amount of Portmouth posters slid through the firewall and called it on with our hardcore of posters in the General Talk forum. The tension was electric and the atmosphere evil was going to go any minute. No Admin in sight and only a thin line of Moderators keeping the two cyber firms apart.

Out of nowhere a well known Millwall poster; had been around for years and had mustered up a post count of over a 10,000 hit a Pompey face with the naughtiest post I've seen in years, it went off everywhere. Threads, posts and replies left, right and centre, absolute chaos. Millwall even had some Polls out for the occasion.

The 6.57gb boys were on the back foot, totally outwitted and when the Technical-28 boys turned up after an off with Brum on Rivals, Pompey logged out sharply. Admin slowly restored the peace but the damage was done.

Only time I've seen carnage like that was the West Ham game when we took it too their chat room. Some right Loons signed in that night, best mob of cyber 'wall Ive seen in years, smashed West H*m all over MSN Messenger.

The online f/v game is dead anyway, Admin are slapping posters with 3 year IP banning orders and ISPs are dishing out harder sentances. Not worth the hassle anymore, I remember the days of Windows 98 or MSDOS..

Oh yeah coz the Saints (what you call a proper club) have been in a higher league than you for donkey's years so get back to work in you s***hole with your s*** club, your s*** players, your s*** dog-faced a***hole of a manager and your s*** excuse for a stadium.

Lammy, and others. I'm in London because it's the only place you can earn a six figure salary doing what I do. However, have been going to FP since 1978. The level of vitriol in response to my message proves two things: 1) the truth hurts; 2) some Saints fans really do live in some alternate reality. When Pompey were sh*t myself and the fans around me knew it and acknowledged it.
And as for watching Saints on TV well the other weekend I watched MK vs Lincoln. So what.
