SAINTS have announced an addition to their goalkeeping stable, with Sophie Harris recruited from top-flight side Leicester City.

Harris arrives at Saints in order to provide competition for current number one Kayla Rendell.

Lincoln-born Harris, 27, came through the ranks at Lincoln City, earning England honours at under-17 level, before being spotted by giants Arsenal and signed to their London academy.

After three years with the Gunners, she remained in North London, joining fellow Super League side London Bees, where she remained for four years, going on to make 48 appearances.

She then linked up with former England boss Hope Powell at Brighton, where she made a handful of top-flight appearances, before leaving for Watford.

Midway through the 2020-21 campaign, she swapped the Hornets for Leicester, helping the Foxes to the first tier for the first time in their history.

Reflecting on her latest signing, boss Marieanne Spacey-Cale told the club's website: “Sophie was the ideal person to come in for us.

"She’s a really high quality goalkeeper who’s played at the highest level in the Women’s Super League.

“Kayla (Rendell) is a fantastic goalkeeper and Sophie is coming in to challenge her but they’re already bonding and the level of the goalkeeping sessions has shot up; she’s bringing in that quality and competition element which can only help that goalkeepers union thrive.”
