TAYLOR Bevan picked up silver at the Commonwealth Games after defeat to Scotland’s Sean Lazzerini in the light heavyweight division.

Fair Oak-raised Bevan, representing Wales, lost out to the more experienced Scot on split decision 4-1, with the 25-year-old Lazzerini convincing the judges with late flurries in rounds one and three.

A solid display in the second round saw Bevan in with a chance in the third and final round, but despite getting some big hits in, Lazzerini’s experience showed in the closing stages.

Bevan impressed throughout the tournament, his first Commonwealth games, and despite participating in an additional round compared to Lazzerini, still looked sharp and quick in the final.

The 21-year-old defeated New Zealand’s Onyx Lye, Samoa’s Jancen Poutoa, Jamaica’s Jerone Ennis, and England’s Aaron Bowen on his route to silver.

Bevan qualifies for Wales via his mother, seeing his time split between Cardiff and Hampshire, where he trains with father Lester at the Poseidon boxing club, based at the Ageas Bowl.
