SOUTHERN Vipers and Georgia Elwiss are confident of securing a domestic double this weekend as they look to add the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy to their Charlotte Edwards Cup win.

The Ageas Bowl team made it back-to-back T20 triumphs earlier in the campaign when they beat The Blaze in the final of the cup, helped in no small part by Danni Wyatt’s quickfire 50 from just 28 balls.

Now they have their sights firmly set on adding the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy to their growing collection of silverware and appear to have hit form at just the right time in the 50-over competition.

The Vipers went straight into Sunday’s final after finishing the group stage top of the table, with four wins on the spin – three with a bonus point - and will meet the winners of yesterday’s eliminator between The Blaze and South East Stars this coming Sunday at Northamptonshire’s County Ground.

Georgia Elwiss will be among the squad looking to make it a domestic double this weekend. The all-rounder is a key player in the Vipers line-up and her 64 from 68 balls last time out against The Blaze helped propel them straight into the final.

The former England international confirmed the mood in the squad is good ahead of the 50-over decider. Speaking on Thursday morning, she said: “We’re hugely excited.

“I think we knew coming into September it was going to be a really tough few games, but we’ve shown the character we have to come through, get the wins and manage to sneak into that final spot.

“It just shows the belief we have in the squad and the confidence we have in each other that we can come through really tough situations and win from anywhere.”

And the 32-year-old was happy to admit securing a domestic double was something the entire squad was aiming for, and that the added pressure of being the team others were trying to topple had provided extra motivation throughout the season.

She said: “It (the double) is something we’ve missed out on over the last few years, and we spoke at the start of the season about how we would have to evolve and how other teams would be coming after us.

“I think the most pleasing thing for us through this season is the way we’ve bounced back after defeats and disappointments. The double is really on and that is something which really motivates us but is also something we don’t take for granted.

“It is a credit to the way the domestic structure is improving each year that there are no easy games – certainly not in a final - but we back ourselves and we back the fact that we’ve got that experience in finals as well to get us over the line.

“Heading into Sunday everyone is hugely excited but knows there is a massive job to be done. We know in finals cricket we have to play our best and we’re prepared to do that.”
