Saints could be set for a substantial cash windfall - courtesy of Portsmouth.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp is today expected to complete the signing of Peter Crouch from Liverpool for a fee of about £11m, with Saints poised to net a significant sum from a sell-on clause.

When Redknapp was at St Mary's he sold Crouch to Liverpool for £7m after Saints had been relegated.

But Rupert Lowe made the sure the deal had a sell-on clause which could benefit Saints.

It is believed that Saints are entitled to 15 per cent of any profit Liverpool make above that original £7m figure.

That would equate to a payment of around £600,000 into the club coffers if Crouch's move to Fratton Park goes through, which would be a welcome boost to the finances.
