EASTLEIGH star Paul McCallum has scooped the National League's player of the month award for December.

With three goals in as many appearances in the league, McCallum was awarded the prize by the National League on Thursday.

His month started with two goals against Reading in the FA Cup, including a last-minute winner that earned the Spitfires a place in the third round.

He then backed that up with another goal against Aldershot in the FA Trophy before facing the Hampshire rivals again the following week.

McCallum scored a brace during the dramatic 5-3 win at the EBB Stadium. McCallum then continued his streak versus Dorking Wanderers.

He scored the winner in the contest at Silverlake Stadium on December 23, with a strike in the 58th minute.

Top scorer McCallum also pulled the fifth-tier Spitfires level against Newport County in the FA Cup third round after Aaron Wildig’s early opener on Tuesday.

The League Two side were eventual 3-1 winners in front of a 5,000 crowd, denying Eastleigh the chance to host Manchester United in the next round.

Richard Hill's side host Oldham Athletic in a return to league action at Silverlake Stadium tomorrow, with kick-off at 3PM.
