GOALSCORER Flynn Downes urged supporters to stick with Saints after his last-minute winner revitalised their chances of automatic promotion.

Downes bundled the ball over the line in the 99th minute to secure an important win over Watford on a weekend where Leicester, Leeds and Ipswich all dropped points.

With a wide smile still on his face, the 25 year old dubbed his goal "carnage" but struggled to recall how he turned the ball past Daniel Bachmann.

Speaking to Southampton's club media, the loanee said: "They don't (get much better than that), what a feeling that was.

"We made it really hard for ourselves. At 2-0 up we were playing really well, cruising, until we took our foot off the gas, myself included in that.

"In the second half, we just weren't anywhere near it. It's good to get the winner. It's a great feeling and it shows the spirit that we have.

"It was carnage. I don't know what happened. I can't even remember it. I remember scoring and that was it. It will be enjoyable to watch that one back."

Asked for his message to the fans ahead of Southampton's final five games of the season, Downes said: "Stick with us.

"The fans were great again today. I know there are some scary moments when we pass short and you hear some boos, but that is the way we play.

"We have got to expect that. So stick with us, it's going to be a massive final five games. Let's get promoted."
