BROKENHURST Manor pro Bruce Parker will be aiming to defend his Hampshire PGA Championship crown at South Winchester tomorrow.

The 41-year-old, pictured right, claimed the prestigious strokeplay title at Basingstoke Golf Club by one shot, from Romsey's James Pitcher, last year.

Parker will again join the cream of Hampshire's professional golfers bidding for one of the association's four annual major championships.

Last season's victory was a special one for Parker, as it was his first major since joining the Hampshire PGA from Dorset nine-and-a-half years ago.

He is hoping he can repeat the feat tomorrow, but admits it will be a tough challenge because of the strength of his competitors.

The opening group will tee off in the first round at 8.30am, with the second round due to start at 1.45pm. Spectators are welcome.
