Michael Brown is ready to complete his move to Surrey after Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove agreed to release the batsman from his contract.
Brown, 28, has been voted Hampshire's Batsman of the Year by his fellow teammates for the last two years but has been frustrated at his lack of opportunities in one-day cricket.
Second-division Surrey are understood to have assured him of more one-day opportunities next year and also want him to open the batting in the Championship with left-hander Scott Newman.
Hampshire are also expected to name a new signing in the next 24 hours and will unveil the man who will replace Paul Terry as manager next week.
