SAINTS have been told there is no timescale for a decision about a possible points deduction.

Accountants arrived at St Mary’s on Wednesday morning to start going through the books to see if the club does deserve a ten-point penalty.

However, the Football League has now said it will not give a definite deadline for a final decision.

The club is hopeful it will avoid a penalty, as it is the parent company, Southampton Leisure Holdings, which is in administration.

At its last board meeting, the Football League commissioned an independent forensic report into Saints’ accounts.

A decision on whether the club will suffer a deduction has been delayed until the results of that are revealed.

However, a Football League spokesman told the Daily Echo there is “no timescale” on when a ruling will be made on the matter.

That leaves open the possibility that, even if Saints survive, their league status could still be in limbo after the final day of the season.
