PORTSMOUTH have been banned from signing any players, the Premier League have confirmed.
It is understood that the embargo has been put in place until the Fratton Park club repays the huge sums of money it owes to other clubs and agents.
Pompey claim it is not a long term issue and is down to cash flow problems and will be sorted by the time the January transfer window opens on New Year's Day.
The club's financial woes have been well documented of late.
They have sold £77m worth of players since January, following that with Sulaiman Al Fahim's protracted takeover hitting the headlines over the summer.
He has since sold 90 per cent of his stake in the club to Saudi businessman Ali Al Faraj.
The latter's takeover stopped the club from becoming the first Premier League side to enter administration and incurring a nine point deduction.
