Saints are facing up to one of the most hectic seasons in the club’s history.

The success of Alan Pardew’s side in cup competitions means that they will have played a minimum of 57 competitive fixtures by the end of the season.

But if they continue to enjoy cup success – and reach the League One play-offs – they could surpass their record-breaking campaign for the most games played by the club in one season.

Even if Saints go no further in either the FA Cup, Johnstone’s Paint Trophy or the league in terms of reaching the play-offs, they will finish 2009/10 having played 57 competitive fixtures.

There are only two seasons in the club’s history where they have played more games than that.

Their fixture problems won’t be helped if this Saturday’s home game against Huddersfield is postponed due to the freeze.
