RICKIE Lambert is aiming to become the quickest Saints striker to 20 league goals for the club in a season since 1966.

Lambert scored his 19th League One goal in 26 starts for the club in the 2-0 win against Stockport last weekend.

He was the first Football League player to reach the 20-goal milestone in 2009/10 after netting once for Bristol Rovers prior to joining Saints.

Since the start of the 1970s only Mike Channon, Phil Boyer, Matt Le Tissier and James Beattie have scored 20 goals for Saints in a regular league campaign.

You have to go back to 1966/67 to find a striker who did it quicker than Lambert might. Back then Ron Davies reached the 20-goal mark on Boxing Day in only his 17th First Division match.
