THE wealth Saints are able to splash compared to some of their League One opposition is brought very much into focus this Saturday.
Alan Pardew takes his squad – complete with around £1.8m worth of added January transfer window purchases – to lowly Exeter City.
Saints, who have spent over £3m this season, will be aiming for three points against a club who on Monday paid a transfer fee for a player for the first time in SEVEN years.
And Exeter were only able to afford £50,000 on Spurs defender Troy Archibald-Henville because Saints paid them around five times that to sign City centre half Danny Seaborne last month!
Seaborne and Archibald-Henville were central defensive partners when Exeter lost 3-1 at St Mary’s in front of over 30,000on Boxing Day.
The Grecians player, then on loan from Spurs, was sent off in the first half when Saints led 2-0.
But the pair will be on opposing sides at the weekend with Seaborne having appeared in all three League One matches following his arrival.
Archibald-Henville, though, will probably start on the bench after his midweek horror show.
The day after signing from Spurs he was part of the Exeter defence which conceded NINE goals in a home reserve defeat to Bristol City.
