Alan Pardew has welcomed back the returning David Connolly insisting: We’ve really missed you.

The striker is set to make a welcome return to the Saints squad for tomorrow’s highly anticipated clash with Leeds in front of a 30,000 plus crowd at St Mary’s.

The Saints striker has not played in 2010 due to a groin injury but is set to return to the bench for the visit of Simon Grayson’s second placed team.

Since Lee Barnard has found form, Saints have had two prolific strikers.

But before that there is no doubt Connolly’s absence hampered the team’s progress, something which his boss, Alan Pardew, recognises.

Pardew said: “It’s simple – he’s got class.

“If you’re a Southampton fan the one thing I always associated with this club was class players.

“We’ve got class players in the team but it’s nice to have another one.

“He can produce a goal out of nothing, he can get a simple goal, he can get an ugly goal.

“We’ve missed him."
