NEW boy Dave Branfoot ensured a Southampton Running Club one-two at round seven of the RR10.

Branfoot and Andy Morgan-Lee, pictured, made much of the early running at Itchen Valley Country Park over a 4.5-mile course where Morgan-Lee chalked up his fourth RR10 victory of the summer, closely followed by his teammate.

Despite the threat of rain, the race, organised by Winchester & District AC over a mixture of grassland and woodland, attracted a good-sized field of runners.

Branfoot and Morgan-Lee were joined in the leading pack in the opening stages by New Forest duo Chris Olden and Gareth Fotherby, along with Stubbington Green Runners' Mark Le Gassick, before the two city runners forged ahead.

Morgan-Lee, who has been switching his attentions to track this summer, representing Team Southampton over the 3,000m steeplechase and 5,000m, said he was pleased with the win. He had persuaded Branfoot to run the RR10 during training at the Southampton Sports Centre the evening before.

Olden was third and he currently leads the overall men's standings. New Forest teammate Beech, third overall behind Southampton RC's Paul Fotherby, just held off Le Gassick to take fourth place.

Southampton RC's Karen Rushton won her second successive RR10, with Lordshill Running Club's Amanda Kingsley second and Heather Buckingham from Team Southampton in third.

Nicci Blandford from Southampton RC had a blistering run, pulling off her best result of the series with fourth place. Overall, Blandford lies second in the ladies' standings from seven races, behind Kingsley, with Buckingham third.

In the team event, Winchester lead the ladies and Southampton RC's men hold ascendancy.

The next round of the RR10 takes place at Janesmoor Pond near Stoney Cross on Wednesday, July 19, at 7.30pm.
