Alan Pardew is set to have a virtually fully fit squad to choose from as he chases a first league win of the season against Leyton Orient at St Mary’s on Saturday.
While the thoughts of most connected with the club remain sombre today as fans and staff pay their respects to late owner Markus Liebherr at a memorial service at St Mary’s Church, attention is slowly turning back towards events on the pitch ahead of the resumption of League One action at the weekend.
Many hope the squad will be galvanised by the sad events of the last week and will respond with a fitting tribute to Liebherr on the pitch against Orient, bagging with it a first three points of the season.
The cancellation of the MK Dons game on Saturday due to Liebherr’s death has meant an extra week for some of Saints’ star players to get fit enough to be considered ready for starts against an Orient side that have lost both of their opening League One fixtures.
