SAINTS winger Lee Holmes is set to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his injured ankle.

The 23-year-old suffered the problem during the 3-0 FA Cup second round win against Cheltenham, at St Mary's, last month.

Holmes landed awkwardly in the early stages of the match and had to be helped off the pitch.

The former Derby County player was in serious pain and visibly frustrated after sustaining the injury, which is the latest major setback of his young career.
