SEAN Ervine will discuss his Hampshire future with manager Giles White at next month’s Caribbean T20.

The all-rounder’s inclusion in Zimbabwe’s preliminary World Cup squad has increased fears that his county career is over.

But White is confident the Caribbean T20 will not include Ervine’s farewell appearance.

He said: “It came as a surprise when I heard Sean was in Zimbabwe’s World Cup squad but I’ve spoken to him and we’ll talk again in the West Indies.

“At this stage he’s a Hampshire player and he’s got a contract for next season.”

Ervine is sure to return to Zimbabwe at some stage and the prospect of playing in the 2011 World Cup in February/March is an undoubted temptation.

But Hampshire are hopeful he will remain at The Rose Bowl for a few years yet.

“It’s a decision for Sean to make,” said White, whose pre-season plans will be in a state of flux if Ervine choses country over county.

The all-rounder qualifies for England next year and will provide some much-needed experience when Hampshire play at the Caribbean T20.

Hampshire are already without Dominic Cork, who will be spending his pre-season as a Dancing on Ice contestant.

“We spoke about it in the summer, when he was approached by Dancing on Ice,” said White. “That was before we knew about the West Indies.

“He’s a disappointed to be missing it but at the same time excited about this opportunity, which could open up some avenues for him.”
