Alex Chamberlain’s potential move to Arsenal is looking uncertain after conflicting comments from the Gunners.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said at the weekend he likes Chamberlain and hinted at an imminent move for the teenage midfielder.
But he was far more cagey when asked about the possible transfer last night.
His comments came hours after it emerged that Manchester United were set to make a late bid to try and hijack a deal for the 17-year-old.
When asked about potential Arsenal transfer moves in the January window, Wenger is quoted as saying: “There is no news, and I would be surprised if there will be any.”
However, Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood was reportedly asked directly about Chamberlain and was quoted as saying: “If Manchester United want to outbid us with some silly figure, that is their privilege.
“I think the boy would like to come to us.”
Meanwhile, Chamberlain has been called into the England under-19 squad to face Germany next month.
Man U, Arsenal or will Alex stay?
