FORMER England star Paul Ince has urged Alex Chamberlain to forget about interest from the Premier League’s elite and remain with Saints.

He believes the 17-year-old winger’s development will be best served by staying at St Mary’s.

Ince is well-placed to speak on the subject, as his own son, Thomas, is a young talent at Anfield.

The 18-year-old left-sided midfielder had been on loan this season at Notts County, where Ince is manager, scoring twice.

However, Liverpool decided not to loan him back to Meadow Lane this month, as the player has refused to sign a new contract with the Mersey giants.

Ex-MK Dons boss Ince is not happy with the situation and believes it is best for young stars like his son and Chamberlain to be playing first-team football in the lower leagues, rather than for the reserves at a Premier League side.

“What’s the point of Chamberlain going to a club like Liverpool or Arsenal? He will just be stuck in the reserves,” said Ince.

“It sounds great – yeah, he can get a big contract, but that’s no good for the education of the kid."
