SAINTS are one of four clubs hoping to tie up a deal for Swindon hotshot Charlie Austin before the weekend - but look set to lose out to Ipswich.

The 17-goal hitman is on the verge of leaving the County Ground, with bids understood to have been submitted by a number of clubs.

One of those is Saints, along with Blackpool, Burnley and Ipswich, who now look set to win the race for Austin.

The striker is understood to be at Portman Road this afternoon to finalise a switch to the Championship side, after they agreed a fee with the Robins.

Swindon value the former Poole Town striker at £2m and have said they are holding out for the best deal possible.

Saints boss Nigel Adkins watched Austin during the Robins' 0-0 draw with Tranmere on Tuesday night.
