SUPER Sholing produced what proud manager Dave Diaper described as “our best ever all-round team performance” to sensationally knock favourites Farnborough out of the Hampshire FA Senior Cup last night.

The Boatmen triumphed 3-1 at Cherrywood Road to set up an intriguing final against their fierce Zamaretto South & West title rivals AFC Totton – the cup holders – at AFC Bournemouth’s Dean Court on Thursday, April 21. “I’ve been at the club 11 years and that’s the best I’ve seen us play. We were absolutely brilliant,” beamed Diaper, whose side sit two levels below Boro in the football pyramid.

“Sometimes you get a result and a bit of luck to go with it, but it wasn’t a question of luck tonight. Their supporters clapped us off and the Farnborough manager (Steve King) said we deserved it."

Sholing went ahead with a 26th-minute Ryan Ashford penalty awarded for a foul on tricky winger Marvin McLean.

They then rocked the hosts with a goal apiece from the Mason brothers after the break.

Byron Mason tapped home on 55 minutes after a well-worked move and then brother Barry stole the show with nine min utes to go, racing from the halfway line and leaving three defenders in his wake before fir ing home.

Farnborough skipper Gary Holloway pulled one back in stoppage time, but it was too little too late for the Blue Square Bet South promotion hopefuls On Tuesday night Totton kept on course to defend their trophy by beating Winchester City 3-1 at the Denplan City Ground through Michael Charles (2) and Tom Price.

"Totton are an absolute quality side,"

said Winchester owner Paul McCarty.

"They're so quick on the break and that's where they punished us."

Ex-Saint Michael Byrne headed in City's consolation goal.
