Nigel Adkins has urged his side to remain level headed as they close in on automatic promotion.

Despite Huddersfield bagging a late winner at Brighton, Saints’ victory at Brentford has left them a win away from a return to the Championship.

They can seal that promotion – barring a remarkable turnaround in goal difference - with victory at Plymouth on Monday.

But Adkins was trying to keep things grounded.

He said: “It was a good victory, three goals away from home, a clean sheet and well done to the players.

“We’ve got two more games to go and we have to keep working very hard.

“They are taking care of business now, getting the preparation right, and we will get ourselves ready for the game on Monday.”

He added: “We’ve said all the way along we’re going to try and win our remaining games regardless of what Huddersfield do.

“We have to go down to Plymouth and try to win a game of football, simple as that.

“Well done to them if they’ve gone down to Brighton and won because it’s not an easy place to go so it was a good victory for them but we are looking to what we can do.”
