Record-breaking Totton hit eight in FA Cup romp

AFC Totton made history – in more ways than one – as they blitzed Bradford Park Avenue 8-1 in a truly remarkable FA Cup tie at the Testwood Stadium this afternoon.

Not only are the Stags through to the second round proper for the first time in their 125-year history, but they are the first post-War non-League side to have scored eight goals beyond the competition’s qualifying rounds.

To put the icing on the celebration cake, Totton were cheered on by a club record crowd of 2,315 which dwarfed the previous best attendance of 1,746 set for a Saints friendly at their old Testwood Park ground in 2009.

Echo,I think you will find the biggest crowd before this match was AFC Totton v Wimborne Town in the FA Vase 2007 at Testwood Park, just over 2000 !

I was there, and what a great game! Bradford were not even a bad team and I don't remember one bad "fluff" in the whole match from anyone - even the poor old overweight Bradford keeper could not be directly blamed for any of the goals - Totton's finishing was just incredible - perhaps 10 chances in the game and 8 of them ended up in the net, and all the goals were scored well inside the area from incisive passing, not speculative shots. Despite two players going off it was a hard cup tie but not really dirty.
If Totton play like that against Bristol Rovers and get only half the chances they are are still going to win and I hope to be there again to see it.

This is great for the Stags and great for the area. With Saints away it would be a shame now if that attendence can not be smashed again! when is the next leg against Bristol?
