Some quality flounders are showing along the western side of Southampton Water, especially along the Shore Road section at Hythe where Paul Madgewick sampled the action.

Madgewick first caught a small bass before reeling in a double shot of flatties weighing 1lb and 1lb 8oz; they both took ragworm baits, writes CHRIS CLARK. His next fish, another flounder, was a real beauty and it tipped the scales down to 2lb 2oz – an excellent session for the time of year.

Some cracking fish have also been taken from shore locations on the Isle of Wight with Dave Hallet beaching the pick of the bunch, a superb 13lb 15oz undulate ray caught while fishing from the Fort Victoria section; a superb fish.
