Birmingham silent over Saints keeper bid
11:43am Thursday 28th June 2012 in Sport
Jack Butland
Birmingham have refused to comment on reports they have turned down a £6million bid from Saints for teenage goalkeeper Jack Butland.
Butland, called into Roy Hodgson's England squad at Euro 2012 as a replacement for Norwich's John Ruddy, is understood to be a top target for newly-promoted Saints, who had an improved offer for the 19-year-old rejected earlier this week.
The Bristol-born 6ft 4in goalkeeper, yet to make a first-team appearance for Birmingham, has been widely touted to be number one for Team GB at this summer's Olympics and the midlands club are determined to keep hold of their prized asset.
Birmingham installed Lee Clark as Chris Hughton's replacement this week and the former Huddersfield boss has already insisted Butland will remain at St Andrews unless the club received a "crazy offer".
Butland spent the final three months of last season on loan at npower League Two side Cheltenham, where he made 24 appearances.

They should deal NOW - and they are getting a very good price.
They (like the blue few) down the road will face administration and down the football league they go !!! They are teetering on the edge.
If the above doesn't happen - with no funds to buy players then the brum are going to have another disappointing Season and Lee Clark will have the billing as the man who can't get a Team promoted.
No wonder their fans are not passionate. When the Snow was falling last Season - the only sound to be heard were the 'hard-core' Southampton Fans.
WE ARE NUMBER ONE.
WE ARE SOUTHAMPTON. COYR.
Finally, Our Fans have asked for and are ready to fight for European Football. Southampton Football Club have provided a whole host of entertainment pre-Season and I applaud NICOLA and the Team for that.

I'd like to acquire Jack but his surname does sound like the sort of place to which Bigrich goes on holiday with Jimmy Sommerville! ;o)

Nicola seems only to be looking for players that are just starting out to build a career which can only be good for our clubs future. With the young players coming through the club our club could stay in the Premier League for another 27 years. Just think 27 years without having to play the SKUNTS at their sh!t hole, GREAT.

How do you suppose saints came up with an opening gambit of £6 million? If you offer 6 first up aren't you saying here's 6 but I'll go to 7-8? My immediate concern is the coming season not what he'll be like in 2 or 3 years. It's too much for an unproven player, wasn't Kirkland meant to be a future great keeper?

If we have made a bid of that proportion for a second choice keeper, the club must feel he is more than capable to take the shirt from K D.

I think Nige will give him a chance this season at the number 1 jersey, if he comes!
We'll see how good he is at the olympics!

So the first part could be to appease the fans as Saints tried to do in the past, and now hopefully Butland has suggest he would like to talk/go to Saints. Which would then leave them with the prospect of at least to strike a deal to get some return on the player.

He won't tell us how much he paid either, or the deal details
The £6m figure has not come from any Saints source. It's speculation from Birmingham, or the agents or the press.
So guess away, it won't make any difference.
But at least once NC makes his move its conclusive.. and usually very good business.
Wait, be patient, breathe, take in the air, be calm.

IMO £6m far too much for a keeper...especially unproven Championship keeper. If they are serious then this is for the No.1 position - I thought Kelvin would only be kept on as a second choice anyway. By the way...don't like the new shirt..not enough white. If we have black shorts we'll just look like Man U, and we should have black shorts. Hope the image doing the rounds is just a spoof...

and as you do not have a season ticket yet this particular view is also to be disregarded with the others.
we could ask for clarification but again it would be disregarded.

Apparently one Birmingham fan has suggested that NC has little money and just makes these offers for players knowing they won't be accepted. Just trying to keep saints fans happy. Sounds a risky business...he really got caught out when JRod said Yes, please.

Just read in a Brazilian newspaper that Lucio (former Brazil captain) has terminated his contracted with Inter by mutual agreement. Rumours say that he's going to Fernebache with an offer of 3 million euros for 2 years. That's about £28,000 a week. And would be free transfer!
