Saints drawn against giantkillers

SAINTS have been drawn away to giantkillers Leeds United in the Capital One Cup fourth round.

Championship side Leeds ended Premier League Everton’s hopes in the third round with a 2-1 win at Elland Road while Nigel Adkins's Saints were beating another Championship side, Sheffield Wednesday, 2-0 at St Mary’s.

Manchester City’s conquerors Aston Villa were rewarded with a trip to Swindon while Manchester United and Chelsea clash.

Arsenal, 6-1 winners over Coventry last night, will travel to Reading, while north London rivals Tottenham also progressed and are set for a meeting with Norwich at Carrow Road.

There will be a north-east derby at the Stadium of Light as Sunderland take on Middlesbrough.

Wigan will host the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, npower League Two outfit Bradford.

Capital One Cup fourth round draw: Sunderland v Middlesbrough; Swindon v Aston Villa; Wigan v Bradford; Leeds v SAINTS; Norwich v Tottenham; Liverpool v Swansea; Chelsea v Man Utd; Reading v Arsenal.

A good tie. We will be able to field a strong team and give some of those who need to get match practice a chance to show their mettle.

Leeds must be seething to put right last seasons results, they will be seeking revenge especially after what happened at their ground when KD and RL virtually beat them on their own. The pressure will be on them, I am not sure whether I desperately want us to keep in the Competition, it is good to see some of our squad players getting pitch time, and a trip to Wembley would be amazing, but if it affects our Premier status I wouldn't be so happy. Tricky being a Premier Team supporter isn't it?

All the big guns are taking this competition seriously at last.
We have a good chance of progressing.

Changing the subject, I had a peek at the News site to check up on their situation and was shocked to see regulars from this site sucking up to skates............
You know who you are.. Hang your heads in shame and remember the hatred and bile we had to endure 4 years ago.

I don't think taking this competition seriously would put our chances of staying in the prem in jeopardy, and winning it would give us a place in Europe. Go for it, I say.

If the draw goes on perceived expectations it will probably be Sunderland, Villa, Wigan, Spurs,Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal. I don't think we can afford to play 11 changes away at Leeds if we want to be in the pot for the quaters and with the added pressures of European ties(for 4 of them I think) I can make a case for us starting to take this cup more seriously from here on in. COYR!

Agreed, I've vividly had his Cheshire cat smug grin staring back at me since Palace beat us 3-0 three years ago. Makes me really want to give him a smack.

Def take the competition seriously - it's only about another 4 games or so - and so many Prem v Prem draws in the last 16 means the door might be open for someone.

FA Cup too - let's face it players don't mind playing - they probably hate training and travelling - but not playing. Risk of injuries yes - but that's what they put there boots on to do.

Any team that has done well in a cup but relegated is down to poor motivational management.

COYR let's do it - we've the squad - and I am sure Jan will see another FB or two perhaps

Not the easiest draw, but certainly winnable. Reckon this competition deserves a bit of respect, and I see no reason why Saints can't put a nice little cup run together.

Reckon a mix of 1st coice and fringe players would be a good call for this one.
Kelvin to get the nod, obviously..

Agreed! Hope poopey make it to round 3 of the FA Cup so we can draw 'em at St Marys.

I think two of our best performances last season were the home and away matches against.leeds.we beat them in style at st marys last august and then put in our best away performance later in the season at elland road to grind out a win.that was our gutsiest performance of all our away matches.if we had done the same at blackpool and got 3 points instead of none and a tonking we would have gone uop as champs.if my memory serves me well Kelvin Davis played a blinder away at leeds.if his picked this time around lets hope we can do the same again.warnock will have them fired up and i think we will need a few fist team players playing if we are to progress.lets go up there and give them a right stuffing.they have always had dirty teams so we will need to be up for it.COME ON YOU SAINTS.
