Shaw in England Under-18 squad
4:42pm Thursday 11th October 2012 in Sport
Luke Shaw
Saints defender Luke Shaw has been named in the England Under-18 squad for the first time.
The 17-year-old left back has been included by head coach Noel Blake for a friendly against Italy later this month.
Shaw has featured for both the under-16 and under-17 national sides, but has now been stepped up a level.
He was promoted to the Saints first-team during the summer and has made one appearance so far this season, in the 4-1 Capital One Cup win at Stevenage.
England will face Italy at Mansfield Town on Wednesday, October 24.

Does anybody rember the Sheffield United fullback GRAHAM SHAW who played for England. He had a younger brother Bernard Shaw who also played fulback for Sheff.UTD and later Wolves.Bernard Shaw played in the same England Youth team as Chopper Harris who we have been talking about on another thread. Also in the same England squad was a flying winger from west ham called HARRY REDKNAPP.Does anybody know what happened to him.

There is a character in the play called Higgins who eventually became a famous snooker player. And I have to say I had forgotten about Chopper Harris - who of course left a trail of broken shins and a famous 70s kids' bicycle in his wake.
Talking of SAINTS England full international full backs i must mention.Bill Ellerington who kept one Sir Alf Ramsey out of the Saints side at one time.Of course Alf himself went on to play for England after moving to Spurs.Other SAINTS fullbacks who played for the England full international team were MICK MILLS and DEREK STATHAM.

cheers city saint..one of your main red bad lads over here is returning to the u.k.next week..pity the hampshire hogs over here, when we had the derbys, have been spoken about in the spanish press, british local press, and radio for the last 12 years...the blues and reds when we took over venus to watch the south coast derbys put the so called glasgow manc derbys etc to shame..if anyone over here says different ...rubbish!!!!!
I used to live in Singapore. The saints/pompey rivalry was well represented there too, and usually in a positive -- but very competitive -- spirit.
I notice your blue crew is openly calling for appleton's head on the new website. Good luck with that, to be fair I think 'appy has gotten away with a lot by hiding behind the cloak of administration. Decent man, no doubt, but very 'appy unlucky. And a good manager makes his own luck.
If you are lucky appleton will go to Bolton. I suspect, given your wretched run, that he will stay.

Personally I can't believe they're calling for Appleton's head. Who in the name of Satan are they going to get who will be any better?
In a way we were lucky to get pardew (not so lucky for Jose) and astute to get Adkins.
But Pompey, with no money and no owne at the moment, aren't in a position to get anyone on board for a while.
I still remember the crap Pompey fans gave us when some suggested saints, cherries (sn) and Brighton fans coming to a game in colors to show solidarity, so maybe this is karma.

I can't see how Bolton will be blown away by this, but for Pompey he's been a godsend.
So thinking about it, it would be amazing if Bolton gave him a job. He's the one man keeping them afloat.

Anyway, fair play Luke. Where the hell is Mansfield? I might go.
I'd like to sound all stoic at this point and ramble on about how I had to take the afternoon off work, slog through London at rush hour, find the only connection out of Derby, miss the start in the dash, then see us lose before missing the last train back and having to grab an expensive taxi all the way home, making me several hundred quid out of pocket.
Truth is, I just happened to be in the area that week and was but a local bus journey away.
Where is it? Look it up yourself you lazy journo.
