Sam Couzens’ reward for knocking out Kelvin Young is a Southern Area title shot – against Kelvin Young.

In a bid to get some form of redemption, Swindon-based Young will this time put his super middleweight title on the line as he boxes Couzens for a second time.

It’s a big opportunity for the 27-year-old from Titchfield, who became the second local boxer after Tony Hill to put a dent in Young’s burgeoning career when he inflicted a fourth round stoppage in May.

The pair will now meet again on September 13 at the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon with Young eager to avoid another defeat.

“I’d trained a full camp but leading up to the fight itself, things weren’t right,” he said.

“I’m a professional and I didn’t want to pull out but this time it won’t be happening again and I definitely won’t be letting my title go.

“I need to tighten up on my defence and correct my mistakes. The fight is over ten rounds this time and I have to be prepared to have a fight with him if that’s what’s needed.”

Couzens has had two title fights in the past, winning the British Masters light heavyweight strap but losing when boxing for the super middleweight version.

He is now training at the Touchwood pro gym in the New Forest.

His brother, Danny, is also with the gym and boxes a week later at the Fareham Leisure Centre in a derby against Ryan Moore of Portsmouth at light heavyweight.
